N.S.W. SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP
BETTINGTON IN FORM BRINSDEN DEFEATS SILK (United Press Association—By Electric 'J.etfegrap h—Copy righ t > SYDNEY, 20th June. The New South Wales amateur singles championship advanced a further stage to-day. R. H. Bettington played amazing golf against H. Patterson in the fourth round, when he took only nineteen strokes for the first six holes, three under par, and was out in 33 to be dormie nine. Another surprise was the defeat of H. Hambleton, who previously accounted for the New Zealander Hornabrook. The New Zealanders Silk and Brinsden shaped well to beat D. Garland and R. Lee-Brown respectively. In the fourth round Silk was two up on his fellow New Zealander, Brinsden, turning for home, but Brinsden secured the match at the seventeenth, where Silk pulled one under a bush. He missed a twelve foot putt for a half at the eighteenth, and Brinsden won one up. The principal results were Third round —Brinsden beat Garland 4 and 3; Silk beat Lee Brown 2 and 1; Ferrier beat N. Brown 6 and 5 ; Hattersley beat Hector Morrison 3 and 2; Bettington beat Wright one up. Fourth Round—Brinsden beat Silk one up; Bettington beat Patterson 9 and 8; Ferrier beat Thompson 5 and 4; Hattersley boat C.
