GIRL GUIDES The monthly meeting of the committee of the Motueka Girl Guide company was attended by Mesdames Ross (in the chair), Fawcett, Green and Thorp, and Misses Wrat, Thorp and H. Thorp. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Livesey, Edwards, Wallace and Stratford. Mrs Fawcett, on behalf of Lieutenant Fawcett' apologised for the absence of a Company report and stated that the guides were working well. " The Brown Owl read her report as follows:—“On 24th May the guides and firowities held a combined rally. Mrs Mac Kay, District Commissioner, was present and made an inspection. -She spoke to the company about ' “Guide Week.” which was then, in progress A “flying-up” ceremony was held, when Eva Lunn, sixer of the Gnomes, and Marjorie Tillson, sixer of the Sprites, left the pack and flew up to the guide company. Maisie Gadd is now sixer of the Sprites- with June Andrews as second, and Rita Norris is sixer of the Gnomes with Isobel Calder as second. Joan McLean is second of the Elves. On Sunday, G9th May, the brownies and guides paraded at a special guide service held to mark the coming-of-age of guiding throughout the world. At present there are twenty brownies on the roll and three recruits. Isobel Calder and Iris Bowers have received their second class badges; and eight other brownies arc preparing for first class. Mrs Thorp spoke of the tree planting, the combined rally, and the service at the Cathedral, held by the Nelson guides during “Guide Week.” The items of the competition for tno Hudson Shield were read and suggestions for the sewing were put forward. It- was decided to ask the Lieutenant for a list of requirements for material. It was also decided that the committee present to the senior guides a story book also any book of instructions, which would be useful to them.
