MILESTONES IN COLOURS

Coloured milestones and signposts in England have been suggested to the Ministry of Transport Committees considering the signpost problem. The proposal is that milestones and signposts should be painted: blue on Class A roads, green on Class B secondary roads, and amber on other roads. This idea is general in Franco, the colours being red, blue and green. It has been urged that witli the quicker travel of motors it is difficult to distinguish figures. No definite proposal for the shape of suggested new milestones has yet been considered. It is understood there will be an endeavour to induce local authorities to adopt milestones of a uniform type, size, colour and lettering.
