The death has occurred at Napier of Mr Patrick Sterling McLean, prominent member of the legal profession, aged 79 years. Born at Dumblane, Scotland, Mr McLean went to Hawkes Bay nearly 60 years ago. He was recognised as a particularly able lawyer, having been offered a judgeship. He was for many years chief of the Hawkes Bay Highland Society and president of the Hawkes Bay R.S.P.C.A., and one of the founders of the North Island Motor Union. .He was an ardent imperialist. He is survived by a widow.

Word has been received in 'Nelson that Mr A. Wilkinson, the first organiser of the New Zealand Rock Garden Society, Nelson, who subsequently removed to Tauranga, has been discharged from the Tauranga hospital after having undergone twelve operations in an unsuccessful attempt to save his arm. Among the guests at the Masonic Hotel are Mr Moiseiwitseh, the eminent pianist; Mr Ralph of J. C. Williamson, Ltd., and Caviellcra Giovanni Formichella, Italian Consul for Now Zealand.

The death has occurred at Wellington of Mr James Donaldson Mitchell, manager of Alex. Cowan and Sons, aged 63 years. He was well known among the bowling fraternity. He leaves a widow and five sons.—Press Association.

Caviellcra Giovanni Formichella, Italian Consul in New Zealand is paying a short visit to Nelson. This morning an official call was made on the Mayor (Mr W. J. Moffatt).
