Following heavy.rains the football ground on Saturday was somewhat sticky resulting in the play being slowed down. UNITED DEFEAT TIKAOKAOS BY 8 POINTS

Tlie senior match between United and Tikaokaos, played on No. 2 ground, resulted in a victory for the former by eight points to nil. From the kick off United, led by Kinzett and Scott, took the ball up-field, Inglis returning play to half-way. Emmene and McKee sent United back to their opponents’ quarters where Silke narrowly missed with a penalty kick. The invaders held on, Kinzett, Silke and Austin being prominent in the attack. From a line-out close in, McKee attempted to force his way over. The ball was then passed to Scott to Moore, who crossed at the corner but failed to gain the try. The United forwards pressed hard on their opponents’ line and Inglis was called upon to clear from a dangerous position. A counter-movement by Tikaokaos cleared out the attackers until James gained possession, the ball travelling to Moore and B. Rowling who scored a try which Kinzett converted. United 5, Tikaokaos 0.

Tikaokaos were unable to withstand the rushes launched by United. A pass, ing bout by Silke, Scott- and Kinzett was temporarily spoilt by a forward pass. From the ensuing scrum and a scramble on the line James dived over for a try. United 8, Tikaokaos 0.

Tikaokaos opened the second spell with brighter football but failed to main, tain the advance. The opposing forwards broke through and Silke reached the 25 before collared. Starnes, McKee and Austin made headway from a line out but McLean managed to clear. United held on for a few minutes until play eased to mid-field. A return to Tikaokaos’ quarters followed, McShane and McKee handling the ball. Towards the end Tikaokaos exerted themselves, but when time was sounded, the scores were unaltered.

HUIA BEAT WANDERER IN

LIVELY/GAME

After a hard and lively contest Huias defeated Wanderers by thirteen points to five. In the first- half O. Lunn scored for Huias, and King scored a try which was converted by Holyoake. for Wanderers, making the scores, Wanderers 5, Huias 3. During the second spell Huias pulled ahead, Buttress and Moffatt each gaining tries both of which were converted by Fly. The final score was 13 Jo 5 in favour of Huias. Mr K. Holyoake carried the whistle.

JUNIOR

HUIA V. TUI

In the junior competition Huias defeated Tui by three points to nil, after a very even game. ’Canton scored for Huias from a penalty kick. Mr J. R. Clark controlled the game. Wanderer juniors gained a victory over Dovedale by the marrow margin of ten points to nine, after a, strenuous game. For Wanderers Ted Fowler and Silcock each scored tries, which were converted by 11. Fowler, while for Dovedale V. Hawke's. secured a penalty goal and Franklin and Greaves a try each. Mr L. Smith refereed the match.

THIRD CLASS

The third grade match, Huia v. Tui was won by the former by eight points to three. Jackett obtained a try in the first half for Tui, and in the second spell Parker and Boyce each scored for the victors. The last try was converted by Morgan. Mr A. Fry carried the whistle.
