In the New South Wales Amateur Singles Championship, first round, out of five New Zealanders only one survived. Results were: Wagg beat E. W. Gregory five and four; Tl. A. llambleton beat Hornabrook one up; C. C. Ruwald beat Rex Gcorgb 3 and 2; C. Glaucoy beat Tallis 3 and 4; 11. W. Hallcrtsly heat Black at the 21st; Withyeoihbe, the Kirk-Windeyer Cup player, fell belore Dobson at the 19th. In the second round, New Zealanders, who had a bye in tlie first round fared as follows: D. M. Garland beat Se.ifort junior 3 and 1; Brinsden beat J. E. Bolgov one up; Silk beat J. F. Manh 1 and 5. Among tlie others, the champion Perrier beat Thomas 5 and 4. Beltington, playing brilliantly, beat Spooner 5 and i\ "Wagg was eliminated by G. Thompson ono°up. Hornabrook failed surprisingly before the Royal Sydney player llambleton, who turned two up, and had to fight hard on the way home. Ilornabrook squared at the eleventh. The next three were halved and then 11ambleton took tlie lead with a birdio four at the fifteenth. Hornabrook secured I lie next and squared the match, but llambleton took the seventeenth 3 and 4 and the eighteenth was halved. There was never more than a hole between Hatersley and Black. They were all square at the turn. Hallersley led for the first lime at the sixteenth, l,ut a bunker cost him the seventeenth. At the 18th the match was still square. Bolh sank long putts to halve the ninrtleenth in par fours. The next hole was halved in five, llattersley holed out from near the edge, of the green to win the twenty-first 3 and 4. _ ' Wagg had an easy win m the first round, but in the second Thompson was too sound for him all round. Brinsden had a lucky win over Bolder. Thirty-two of the 90 competitors remain in' for Monday, when the third and fourth rounds will be decided.
