POST AND TELEGRAPH DEPARTMENT MINISTER’S APPEAL An appeal to tlio public that it make the fullest use possible of the Post and Telegraph Department, which was making every effort to maintain the most efficient service at the lowest cost, was made by the Postmaster-General, the Hon. A. Hamilton, in his address at the official opening of the new High street post office at Christchurch. “I desire to make a special appeal to the public, now that postal charges have been reduced, that it make the fullest use possible of the efficient facilities offered by the Post and Telegraph Department,” said the Minister. “We have made the service as cheap as is possible, so the greater use made of it the more improvements can be effected. We would increase the staff, for instance. We would be delighted to do so if business increased so aa to warrant such a step. There are dozens ami dozens of boys and girls waiting to get into the service. If the public give us its business we will be able to assist it more. “And if you have any money in your pocket put it into the Post Office Savings Rank. The withdrawals from that branch have been very heavy, amounting to approximately £500,000 per month at present. I. know that people are having to lean on their savings to a greater exent than ever before, but those who can afford to do so 1 urge to put their money into the Savings Bank. Despite all the criticism, I maintain that there is not a safer palce for it,” concluded the Minister.
