COUNTY CRICKET SUTCLIFFE-HOLMES PARTNERSHIP (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, 15th June. High scoring was the feature of several county cricket matches to-day, the most notable performance being a first wicket stand of 423 runs for Yorkshire against Essex. The opening pair were not out at the close, Holmes being 180 and Sutcliffe 231. A WORLD’S RECORD FIRST WICKET PARTNERSHIP (Received 17th June, 10.15 a.m.) LONDON, 16th June. Holmes and Sutcliffe established a world record first wicket partnership of 555 runs, when Sutcliffe was howled for 333, breaking the Brown-Tunnicliffe score of 554 in 1898. Allom is unable, to play in the Test trial, and Tate replaces him. INDIANS’ GOOD WIN (Received 17th June, 10.50 a.m.) LONDON, 16th June. India in their first innings lost seven wickets for 424 declared (Marshall 148, Limbdi 100 retired). Eastern Counties, in their second made 173 (Rhodes 90). The Indians won by an innings and 129 runs. , MATCH DRAWN South America, first 270 (Ayling not out 95). Marylebone, second, lost three for 150 declared (Seabrook 67). America, second, lost three for 50. The match was drawn.
