SMALL SAVINGS OF BRITISH PEOPLE TOTAL OF 2244 MILLION POUNDS £SO PER II RAD OF/ POPULATION (British Official Wirolcsß) RUGBY, lHh June. A remarkable increase in the amount of savings of all kinds by small investors was revealed at Die National Savings Assembly at Blackpool. General Seeley, chairman of Die National Savings Committee, slated that in 1 1911 the total small savings amounted to £492,000,000 or £l2 a bead of the population. In 191(1, when the national - savings movement first came into being , with the formal ion of Die National War Savings Committee, Die total of small savings increased lo £087,000,000, ail average of £lO a bead. In the live years from JOIO to 1921 Die figures doubled, reaching £1418,000,000 or £33 a bead of population. By Die end of the 1931 period the total of small savings bad risen to the amazing figure of £2244,000,000, or £SO per head.
