TEACHERS’ TRAINING COLLEGES
TWO TO BE CLOSED STAFF RETRENCHMENT (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. The drastic change over to be made at the beginning of the next training year in the administration of the New Zealand Teachers’ Trajiuing Colleges, which will see the closing of the Wellington and Dunedin institutions, will necessitate fairly heavy staff retrenchments. This statement was made yesterday by the .Minister of Education, the lion. R Mas lets, in reply to "a question as to the effects of the move which is being made on the ground of economy. No now students will, be admitted to the training colleges next year and those normalK returning to the Wellington and Dunedin colleges will bo transferred to Auckland and Christchurch. There would he fairly large reductions in the teaching staff, but all those retrenched would be able to apply for positions in secondary, technical and primary schools. There would be a reduction in the number of physical training instructors from eight to four.
