SUPERANNUATION FUNDS.
DEPARTMENTAL INQUIRY A LENGTHY BUSINESS (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. {Lying to the protracted nature of its investigations the inquiry of the departmental committee appointed about two years ago to look into the state of public service, teachers’ and railways superannuation funds has been lost sight of during recent months. It had been expected that the report of the committee would have been in the hands of the Government before, the present session commenced, but no indication is yet available as to when the committee will complete its work. Tlie possibility that a report will not be presented in view of the fact that the National Expenditure Commission is inquiring into the same matter was mentioned by Mr Forbes to-day. He said he was unable to say whether it was proposed to adopt that course. The committee had been a particularly useful one and had dealt with some difficult points from time to time. It was possible that the data which had been collected up to the present would be placed before the royal commission and thus assist it to arrive at recommendations based on evidence the departmental committee had adduced.
