PLUNKET SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children was held in the Waimea County Council Chamber. In the absence of Mrs Wallace, the chair was taken by Mrs Lock. A motion of sympathy with Mrs Cliisnal on the loss of her little daughter was passed, members standing. Nurse Pascoe read the Nurses’ Reports. The town report stated that seventeen new cases had been taken during the month; 319 mothers and adults, 241 babies, and 62 older children bad attended the rooms, bringing the total number of visits to the rooms up to 622. Wakapuaka bad been visited three times, and two visits had been paid to each of the two districts, Stoke and Taliuna. Many of the new cases had needed extra attention, but were now progressing favourably. The health of the babies on the whole had been very good. Emulsion sold during the month, 551bs. Karilac, 321bs Tlio country report stated that there were 239 cases oil the books. Richmond had been visited twice, the attendance at the rooms being very good. Two new cases were taken, and the health of the babies seen, was quite satisfactory. Wakefield bad been visited twice, tlie rooms being well attended, and the health of -the babies being good. Dovedale had only been visited once during month, owing to the Easter -«■ holidays. Each baby bad been visited in its home. Murchison had been visited once. As many babies as possible were seen in their homes, one now case being taken. The committee bad procured the use oi a bicycle for the nurse, who greatly appreciated this quicker means of getting from homo to homo.

.Amongst the correspondence read was •a letter from. Miss Rhodes (who is leaving Nelson) resigning from the ollice of assistant treasurer. The letter was received witli regret. Mrs Knapp'proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Miss Rhodes for her very capable service as treasurer, Mrs Neale, seconded, and the motion was carried with acclamation. Miss Blackitt was appointed acting treasurer in Miss Rhodes’ place. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Fletcher, who kindly agreed to act as auditor after the annual meeting. The committee received, with deep regret, a letter from Mrs Wallace resigning from the oflice of President. Mrs Lock said words could not express what it meant losing so splendid a President. The Society could not have had a better President. Mrs Wallace had put her whole heart and soul into the work, for which she had a very real love, and it was largely due to her that Plunket work in Nelson had become so widely known and appreciated. Mrs Wilkes said the Richmond subbranch would miss Mrs Wallace very much and greatly regretted her resignation.

Mrs Knapp, after speaking a few heartfelt words on what the Society had gained under Mrs Wallace's wise rule, moved, “That a letter of appreciation of her valuable services, ho sent to Mrs Wallace.” Miss Atkinson seconded the motion, which was carried with acclamation. Mrs Lock asked that all nominations for new members and officers ho in by next meeting. New members must acquaint themselves with the rules and legulations of the Society, and ho prepared to give loyal service.

Commit ten members were invited lo attend the Richmond sub-branch annual meeting. Members were also invited to attend the Wakefield annual meeting. Nurse Pascoe was asked to act as speaker.

Mrs Rogers reported that over copies of the Cookery Book had been sold to date.

The Produce Stall, held on Bth April, realised £2l lbs 4d. The committee desired to thank country members and till who helped with the stall. The Dramatic Entertainment, advertised for the 28th April, was postponed till Juno.

Accounts amounting to £42 17s 5d were passed for payment.
