Defendant by an ingenious contrivance caused a circuit cutting ont the meter. To avoid detection a switch was operated by pulling a cord at defendant’s desk, which caused electricity to pass through the .meter should the Power Board officials arrive to inspect. Counsel for the Power Board that it was estimated that the board was losing £3OOO yearly by thefts. Defendant is the manager of the Waihi-Paeroa Transport Company.
