YOUR AIR RATION
Every person uses more than 301bs of air every day. A man may live well on 31 bs of food and 4 or 51bs of liquid, but the air ho breathes weighs four times as much as his food and drink together. Every time we breathe wo draw oU cubic inches of air into our lungs. Supposing that' we take 15 breaths a minute for the 24 hours of the day, wo use no less than 645,000 cubic inches of air, which would weigh over 301bs. One day’s supply of air for one human being would be sufficient to, fill 1,125 twogallon petrol tins; a year s supply would weigh more than five tons. A small room in which a gas-stove or a fire is lighted soon becomes stuffy because, much air is consumed in burning anything. Quite a small fire will use in an hour more than a man breathes in a whole day. A gas or coal fire needs about 50lbs of air every day, or more than a ton of air every four days! Hence lhe necessity of keeping windows open. Proper ventilation furnishes a continuous supply of fresh air. Sitting m » loom means starving the body of that which it needs most.
