FRUIT EXPORTERS’ MEETING (From Our Own Correspondent) An executive meeting of the Mqluoka. District Fruit Exporters’ Association was held at Mr Stratford's office on Thursday evening and was attended by Messrs !). llaining (chairman), W. Anderson, J. ScoLt, W. Bolton, C. H. Mackay, A. E. Lindup and It. V. Warren. The chairman stated that the fireblight scheme had been in operation for six weeks for the cutting back of hawthorn hedges; but progress was slow on account of smallness of allotment. Mr Stratford (orchard instructor) expressed willingness to hold apple packing classes in preparation for the coming season. On the motion of the chairman and Mr Mackay it was decided that Mr Stratford’s offer be accepted, and that only pupils with definite prospects lor the coming season be enrolled. With regard to increased representation for Nelson on the Federation and Control Board, the chairman reported that it, was suggested by the Board that the resolution passed at the Dominion Conference in connection with same should be forwarded to the Minister of Agriculture with a covering note to the effect that the Board had no recommendation to make. In reporting this Mr llaining said he wished to point out that he disagreed with the views of the majority of the Board and thought it his duty to report the position to growers. lie had already expressed his views on the situation at a meeting of combined executives held at Mapua last week. SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING The monthly meeting of the Motucka District High School Committee was held in tho High School, there being present Messrs Eric Trevena (chairman), S. G. Smith, G. Manifold, A. G. Talbot, J. R. Thomson, J. O'. Anderson and 13. V. Warren. An apology for absence was received from Mrs Moffatt. Accounts amounting to £lB 15s 2d were passed for payment. It was decided that a man be employed for one day at the side school to clean up. . , , The headmaster (Mr H. G. Johnston) reported for the month of September as follows : “Attendance: Secondary, roll 72, average 66.8; primary (mam school), roll 283, average 261; primary (side school): roll 41, average 33.7; total primary, roll 324, average 294.7. As the average attendance required for grade VB is 281, it will be seen from the above figures that the school js well above the necessary number. Further the side school .roll of 41 is likely to be increased by new entrants, thus further complicating the question of staffing. Manual Buildings: Alterations sanctioned by the Board have enabled the instructor, Mr Stout, assisted by High School boys, to convert part of a corridor into a roomy store room, which will serve to contain the work of the adult classes and keep it apart from the work of the ordinary day classes.” MAGISTRATE’S COURT At the monthly sitting of the Magistrates’ Court, before Messrs J.
