The seamen’s dispute affecting the steamer Canberra has taken a more serious turn. A settlement was not effected and the vessel was laid up indefinitely. Fifteen racehorses for Melbourne were unloaded, and are entraining for that destination to-night. All the passengers left the ship. The Canberra’s cargo is being .transhipped to the steamer Wear, but the union has asked the waterside workers to refuse to handle it. There is every indication that the dispute will extend to other inter-State vessels.
