COLLISION WITH A COW
DEATH OF MOTOR CYCLIST MISHAP AT N GATE A The inquest at Thames concerning the death of Walter John Douglas Johnson, who was killed on the night of Ist August, when his motor cycle collided with a cow at Ngatea. was completed before the coroner. Air W. Bongard. Graham C. Connell, a motor driver, of Waitiikaruru, stated that he found deceased lying across his motor cycle close to tlie middle of the road. I here was a cow lying on the other side of I lie road about 18ft away. Witness put Johnson in his bus and took him to Thames Hospital. Dr. Wilkin, house surgeon at Thames Hospital, described Johnson s injuries, lie never regained consciousness, dying on 3rd August Airs Alary Laurence said owing to had fences it was possible for her cows to got on to the road. The dead cow was her property. Constable White, of Thames, said the cow bore evidence of having been drag? god along (lie road. The hack wheel of the cycle was looked by the brake, so il was evident that, Johnson had applied the brake before the accident. Tlie coroner returned a verdict that Johnson met his death h” accidentally colliding with a cow.
