BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING
CORRESPONDENCE AND GENERAL Yesterday afternoon the monthly meeting of (lie M'aimea County Council was concluded. Mr S. A’. Wearing (Stoke), Air A. C. Higgins (M'airoa Gorge), Mr H. F. Uaigeiit (Koliatu), and tho Ngatimoti branch of the Farmers’ Union wrote thanking tho Council for work done.. A grant of £5 was made to the Dovedale riding for the destruction of small birds. An application from Messrs <L H. Groenein and N. M'liilwell to erect a motor garage on the public load Wauaptiaka, was left to the chairman and the Engineer with power to act. The Stoke Progressive Association asked if the Council could extend the. footpath from the Stoke post- office to Boorman's Valley road by the utilisation of unemployed labour. ’1 lie Engineer was instructed to furnish a report as to cost. A request from the Stoke .Methodist Church trustees to remove hedges surrounding the church property was referred to the Engineer and Councillor Manson with power to act. Air Ti. G. Bailey and other settlers asked that the road from Johnston s bridge, Aniseed Valley, up the Serpentine, lie improved. The matter was left to the chairman. Councillor Palmer and the Engineer, with power to act.
The secretary of the. Nelson Bush and Bird Preservation Society (Afrs Aloncrioff) asked if the Council could set aside, any land in M'airoa Gorge as a scenic reserve. The chairman was authorised to make inquiries. Regarding a letter from Air .T. Price. Baton, it was resolved that more work he done oil the road as soon as the weather is favourable.
The Engineer was authorised lo carry out necessary work on upper side of tho bridge opposite Air Wallace E. Fairhall’s property at Fiveoti Valley. Tt was resolved to inform Air R. Al. King, Golden Downs, that (lie Council had no money to expend on the Golden Downs-Kobatu road.
A letter from Mr R. C. Biggs and others, Tapawera, as to repairs to Glen Rae road was referred to the Engineer. The sum of £5 is to he offered to Air, 11. O. Kite, Tapawera, ns a donation towards the cost of erecting a bridge giviii'" access to his properly. The request of Air J. ML Christian, Tui, that a sleep pinch on the main road between Tui and Kaka he graded was deferred for consideration.
’Hie Engineer is lo report on the improvement of the Cow Valley road, a. letter concerning which was received from Mv R. W." Dwan. Owen Valley. Concerning a letter from the ATolunka Borough Council as to the Takaka Hill quarry, it was resolved to ask the Council to pass a resolution indemnifying the County Council against any accident which might be caused resulting from the Borough Council’s operations. Arising out of a letter from Messrs Glasgow, Rout and Check, it was resolved to defer for consideration the closing of the old road and legalising the present road through Painter s properly, Riwaka. Concerning a letter from the Counties Association as to the removal of telegiaph poles, it was resolved to write to the Highways Board concerning its attitude.
Regarding, a letter from the Riwaka. > viincb of the N.Z. Fanners’ Union as to Canaan track, it was resolved that on receipt of certain correspondence now pending between the Council and the Government the secretary of the Union he informed of the facts of the case. It was resolved to notify Air A. E. Lindtip, Matin', in response to an inquiry, that the road leading to his property is a county road. Permission, tinder the usual conditions. was given to Mr L, E Ewers, Neudorf, to encroach on road with his fence. A similar request from Air G. Ferry was referred to Councillor love for a report.
