He was not prepared to state his opinions regarding the' prospects of New Zealand trade therewith until he had submitted his official report to the Govr eminent., He said it was very encouraging to. find how well New Zealand was regarded in the East. [*■ _He found Singapore a very modern city, with excellent public building's and up to date conveniences, but depression was prevailing as a result of the drop in prices of tin and rubber, and 80,000 indentured labourers from the surrounding islands had been repatriated.
There was depression also in Netherlands East Indies on account of the decline in prices. ’ . -
