POUND SCHEME
GENEROUS CHRISTCHURCH DONATIONS TWO, THOUSAND FAMILIES FED. Two thousand families in Christchurch are being provided for under the pound scheme, which is now operating smoothly and effectively in the relief of distress (says the “Times”). The division of the city into eight districts each catered lor by a depot, has prevented overlapping and ensures a fair distribution of provisions.
It was reported oil Saturday that supplies are keeping up fairly well at. tlie central depot, which is the Feeding point for the eight distribution points, hut the stocks of butter and lea are a long way shore of the demand. Clothing, anil bools are also badly needed. Bmvvood made a generous donation lo the stocks during the week, good supplies of groceries and other provisions iieng received and distributed. Produce sent in by farmers from Culvertlen and Balmoral were greatly appreciated, many familes being supplied with muchneeded vegetables. Produce and firewood were also received frocm Woode.nd, DarJield and Sheffield. Ninety hares and rabbits, logrthcr with produce, constituted it helpful donation from Ilanmcr l esidenls. A generous supply of 1301 b of tea from an anonymous giver was received during the week.
