As briefly telegraphed, the death occurred at the Grey River Hospital, fol lowing an operation, of Mr William Joseph Joyce, barrister, aged sixty, one of the most widely known West Coasters. The eldest son of Mrs Honora Mary Joyce, of Murray Street, he wgs born in Greymouth and was educated at th fi Ahauru and Greymouth schools. He was first associated in the profession with the late Mr Michael Hannan, and in 1892, at the ago of twenty-one, was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court. Since then he had practised his profession in Greymouth. As a criminal lawyer he was widely, noted for his ability, and he was one of the most familiar figures in the Greymouth, •Westport and Hokitika Supreme Courts. He also had a very busy practice in the lower Courts. Though he had not- enjoyed the best of health for some time, Mr Joyce continued his professional duties until a little over a week ago, when lie entered the Grey Hospital. He leaves a widow, three sons, .Messrs Gerald and Percy Joyce (Greymouth), and William Joseph Joyce (North Island), and two sisters, Mrs Mclnroe and Mrs D. Cameron (Greymouth).
