LAND DEVELOPAIENT SCHEME URGED (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. At the R.S.A. Conference yesterday a resolution was passed expressing ipprcciation of the work of the Unemployment Board and urging provision of further finance to enable tlie board to continue its work and assist in land development on a large scale. The conference adopted the following remits dealing with unemployment: That in view of the thousands of men unemployed in New Zealand, a large percentage of whom are returned soldiers who had signified their willingness to participate in a scheme for the development of Crown lands, this association urges the Government to take immediate steps for permanently absorbing the unemployed by a land development scheme on a large scale; that this conference views with apprehension the large number of dismissals ol returned soldiers from Government departments, and requests that the Government adhere to its accepted rule that, all things being equal, preference of employment be given to returned soldiers.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS ' AVELLINGTQN, This Day. The R.S.A. Conference elected the following officers: President, General Sir Andrew Russell; vice-president, Air W. Perry; district vice-presidents, General Sir George Richardson (Auckland), Mr B. J. Jacobs (Wellington), Mr W. G. Lloyd (Canterbury), Air W. D. Skelton (Otago); Dominion hon. treasurer, Air J. D. Harper; general committee, Alcssrs A. T. Duncan, C. W. Batten, N. A. Vercoe, E. F. Willsox, 0. L. Ferens, and C. A. C. Sexton ; delegate to tlie Canteen Funds Board, Colonel Af.
