SMALLPOX
EPIDEMIC IN CALCUTTA (Unitod Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copy ri gh t) (Received 25th February. 12.10 p.m.) CALCUTTA, 24th February. The city is in the grip of a smallpox epidemic which began on 4th January and to Saturday had caused 167 deaths. Thirty thousand vaccinations have been undertaken weekly bv the Government doctors alone, besides thousands by private practitioners. The worst of the epidemic is expected three weeks lienee. Thus far only a few Europeans have been attacked by the disease.
