For tlie resumption of the fifth test match between England and South Africa the weather was fine. A diagonal breeze assisted the African swing bowlers, Bell and Cochran. England’s opening pair hatted steadily, and looked unlikely to he separated before lunch, but within five minutes thereof Hammond fell to a magnificent catch, and Wyatt followed him to the pavilion without addition to the total of 56. Hendren played cautiously till midafternoon, when there was a sensational collapse, Hendren, Leyland, Turnbull, and Chapman going in quick succession, and six were down for 126.
Farrimond made a stubborn stand for 50 minutes, reaching double figures. Then with Tate he hit out, the partnership adding 50 in 45 minutes. Tate hit five fours. Scores : South Africa,” first innings 252
Bowling: Bell took two wickets for 63 runs, Cochrane none for 27, Vincent six for 51, McMillan two for 57.

NEW SOUTH WALES V. WEST INDIES TOURISTS’ GOOD SCORE UPHILL FIGHT FOR HOME SIDE SYDNEY, 24th February. The weather was excellent and the wicket good for the resumption of the New South Wales v. West Indies match. There was a moderate attendance. Sealey and Constantine were brilliant, batting brightly and with great confidence. Constantine bit eight fours. SHEFFIELD SHIELD WON BY VICTORIA COMPETITION FINALISED ADELAIDE, 24th February. In the Sheffield Shield match against Victoria, South Australia in the second innings made 154 (Ironmonger taking five for GO). Victoria in the second innings lost four for 131 (Ryder 48). South Australia won on the first innings. The competition for the Sheffield Shield is now finalised. Victoria wins with 1G points, New South Wales is runner-up with 15 points, Queensland 13, and South Australia 9.
