RAIN BENEFITS ORCHARDS FULL QUOTA FOP FIRST SHIPMENT Mr J. 11. Brunt, shipping supervisor for the local branch of the Fruitgrowers' Federation, staled to day that the recent rain lias heneliled the orchards to a greal extent. However the wet ground conditions have affected the picking, and it, is probable (here will not be enough fruit forward to complete the quota of 26,000 cases for the Coptic which is duo to sail for London on 28th February. Growers have now commenced to pick Dunns for the Continent. A number of growers seem to be under (lie impression that the 180 pack for Dunns for the Coillinen! is acceptable but this is not so, the 163 pack being the minimum. The only variety for the Continent to which the' 180 pack applies is lhe Desert Gold variety.
The full quota of 26.000 cases was received for the Port Chalmers which sails to-day from Wellington to Southampton with the first overseas shipment of the season.
