ORINOCO
VARIOUS ITEMS (From Our Own Correspondent) After experiencing a very dry time we have had a good rain, which should do a great deal of good. Turnip crops should come away well. The raspberry crops are over and fair crops have been obtained in the valley. Quite a number of tobacco 'growers have commenced to harvest their crops, which are not as heavy as usual owing to the very dry weather. The Orinoco Tennis Club recently held a dance in the Ngatimoti hall. A very enjoyable evening was spent and £7 was handed over to the Earthquake Relief Fund as the result. Mrs A. Kenyon very kindly supplied the music and Air S. 1. Llcwellin acted as M.C. On Friday last a concert organised by Misses Rose and Borrel proved a huge success, and the items were greatly appreciated bv the audience. The programme was long and varied, including some very outstanding elocutionary items by .Misses Ritchie and Jackson; while three Orinoco school children put on a very amusing sketch entitled “Ale and my Lunch.” The Whakagcwa boys who are always so willing to help wore heard in three or four very 'good part songs. Some very pleasing songs and duets were rendered by Air Trovena’s concert party from Motueka and Orinoco residents, while the sketch “An Interrupted Proposal” was performed by Afrs 0. H.
