FROZEN MEAT Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., have received (he following cable from their London agents, dated 20th February: — North Island Down lambs, 28'36 7LI per lb, 36/42 7£d. Best North Island crossbred lambs. 28/36 7&d, 36/42 7£d; North Island 2nd quality lambs average 30/31 6d. Best North Island wether sheep under 481bs 4Jjd, 48/56 4d, 56/64 3|d, 64/72 3|d. North Island ewes, under 481bs 2%d, 48/56 23d, 56/64 2£-d, 64/72 2J,d. New Zealand prime ox beef, 160/220, none offering. As compared with last week’s quotations, North Island Down lambs and best North Island crossbred lambs -§d per lb. lower, North Island second quality lambs £d per lb. lower. Best North Island wethers 48/56 l-8d per lb higher, 56/72 J-d per lb. higher, North Island ewes under 481bs and 56/72 £d per lb higher. North Island owes under 481b,s and 56/,64 gd per lb. higher, 48/56 and 64/72 3d per lb. higher. These quotations are for new season’s mutton.
DAIRY PRODUCE The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.. Ltd., have received the following advice from their London House, dated 18th inst. : Dairy Produce : Butter—-New Zealand choicest salted 122 s to 123 s per cwt (119 s to 120 s). Market quiet. Cheese 56s per cwt (545); coloured 58s (555). Market steady. TALLOW AND HEMP The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated 21st February, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — “Tallow.—Market very quiet. Certain amount of business in mutton (fine) and mixed (fair to good) at 6d decline. Inferior qualities not desired. No auction until next week. “Hemp.-—Manila market dull under pressure of selling due to heavy receipts. ‘K’ grade March-May shipment sold won to £l7 10s. Output Ist January to 16th February, 158,000 bales against 172,000 hales at same period last year. Stocks in United Kingdom on 31st January 9033 bales against 8448. Sisal: Market quiet and average clasing values unchanged. New Zealand: No interest shown and quotations nominally unchanged. No first band sales reported.”

Closing prices for the following raw materials were as follow, those for 14th February being given in parentheses:— Cotton.—Liverpool quotation, American middling, upland, March delivery, 5.92 d per lb (5.82 d)., Rubber.—Para, 4|d per lb (4-J.d); plantation smoked, 3 13-16 d (3 15-16 d). Jute.—February-March shipment, £ls per ton (same). Hemp.—None offering. Copra.—March shipment South Sea, £l4 lOs per ton (£l4 ss); plantation Ra haul, £l4 12s 6d per ton (£l4 7s 6d). Linseed Oil—£2o 10s per ton (£lB 10s). Turpentine—37s per cwt (37s 6d). Osmiridium—Tasmanian, £l4 per ounce (£15); South African, £l2 (same). SYDNEY WOOL SALES (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY, 23rd February. At the wool sales offerings totalled 10,679 bales, of which 10,537 were sold, also 1127 privately. The average price of wool sold last week was 0.6 J per pound. Tliere was keen competition at to-day’s auction, especially from the Continent, Japan and Bradford. Tint market was very firm, in many cases in sellers’ favour. Greasy merino fleece sold to 23|d.
