“WIZARD” SMITH’S SPEED CONFIDENCE IN HIS CAR “WONDERFUL BEACH” FOR TEST SYDNEY, ]3th February. Australia’s speed king, “Wizard" Smith, who will attempt to break the world’s speed record oil the Ninety-Mile Beach, New Zealand, at the end of April, is not perturbed about the recent run of Captain Malcolm Campbell on Daytona Beach (U.S.A.), when a new record of 245 miles an hour was established. “I .will do 300 miles an. hour,” said Mr Smith. “I have any amount of power, and a wonderful beach, four
times as long ns Daytona, and ten times as wide. It is hard, with no pools of water. My car is a 11)31 model job, and is the best-designed and bestequipped car which will have attempted the record.” Congratulatory cables were sent by Mr Smith to Captain Campbell, who, in reply, wished Mr Smith good luck in his attempt on the record. Preparations are going ahead in the completion of the Fred. 11. Stewart Special, and Mr Smith is making his final arrangements for leaving Australia for New Zealand. The machine is totally different to the Anzac, the machine in which lie unofficially broke the world’s record at Ninety M'h* Beach last year.
