The Bishop of Nelson, who slipped and injured a foot about three weeks ago, is still confined to his bed, but is making slow improvement. Mr H. E. A. Twyford, chairman of the textile firm of Messrs George Brettie and Co., of Wood street, London, E.G., was at the end of October, declared elected Alderman of the City ward of C'ripplegate, in succession to Sir William Baddeley, who has resigned. Some years ago, Mr Twyford was wellknown in commercial circles in New Zealand. He was then on the staff of the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company, and for a period held an executive position at the company's station at Cable Bay, near Nelson. Afterwards he made several trips through New Zealand as business representative of the Company.
Guests at the Masonic Hotel include: Messrs Gill, Rolls, Parkin, Hazelwood, Tonge, James, Hallet, Robinson, Flavell, Bell, Loitreau, Mclvor, Anderson, Craven, Guthrie, Mr and Mrs Murray, Miss Craven.
Major Sanirford', Commissioner for Training for the Boy Scouts, arrived in Nelson to-day, and is the guest of Dr. and Mrs W. D. Stoney Johnston! This evening Major Sandford will make a tour of inspection of the various troops ill the city.
A Fremantlc cablegram states that among the passengers by the Ohanto is Miss Gladys Watkins, who has been abroad studying carillon, playing.
