The Italians held on board the Orford refused to transfer lo the Orama for reLll rii to Italy, and were carried on to Brisbane. Tliey cabled Signor Mussolini to intercede for them, and are disappointed that they received no reply. CANBERRA, 6th December. Official opinion, considers that the action in banning the entry of the Italians is fully within the law and justified by the present industrial situation, with unemployment already so serious. ITALIAN PRESS CRITICISM (Received Bth December, 9.20 a.m.) ROME, 7th December. "A drama is developing in Sydney damaging the people of our nationality," says the "Lavoro d'ltalia," adding that Draconian edicts are issued by Labourites who preach internationalism bill ostracise Italians.
"II Popolo d'ltalia" refers to Australian egotism and declares that the exclusion of Italians is immoral and inhuman in view of the fact that they were allies in the World War.
