On the eve of St. Nicholas Day, which celebrated like Christmas in parts of Belgium. Madame Thery, living with her uncle, put fc> "bed five chijdren, whose dges ranged from seven months to six years. She lit a gas heater in order to warm the room and returned later to fill a Christmas stocking. She found the heater extinguished and the room filled with gas, all the children being suffcated. She was admitted to hospital distraught, after vain efforts to revive them.
