PERSONAL ITEMS

The death took place yesterday of Mr William Eaton Burt. of Victoria Heights. The late Mr Burt,' after disposing of his solicitor's business in Bournemouth, England, about 20 years ago, came to Nelson and took up land in the Howard district, where he lived with his family for a few years. He then removed into town. He took much interest in municipal and parliamentary matters, and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He leaves a" widow, one son, Mr Arthur Burt,'' of "Twyneham," Glenhope, two daughters, Mrs Burton, Alton street, and Miss Burt, Opotiki, and several grandchildren. Guests at the Masonic Hotel include: —His Honour Mr and Mrs Justice Reed, Hon. W. H. Mclntyre, M.L.C.. Mr, Izard, Mr J. C. Bond, Capt. Chandler, Capt. Haigh, Mr Oscar Garden, Messrs Hickey, Kerr, Devereux. Evans, Pope, Rollings, King. Holmes, Duncan, Brown, Holdenan, Burberry, McKeon, Hendry, Snoad, Bartlett, Brandt. E. J. Brammall, Hewlett, Mr and Mrs MacLaughlan, Mr and Mrs Clark, Mr and Mrs Gillham, Misses Burton, Lucas, Burden, Mackay.

Owing to the death of the Hon. J. Barr, M.L.C., the Hon. W. H. Mclntyre M.L.C., chariman of the Nelson Education Board, leaves for Wellington this evening, and has had to cancel his proposed visit to the schools in the Motueka, Takaka and Collingwood districts.

The death occurred at Rotorua last week of Mrs John Mitchell Wilkie. She was well known to older Nelsonians as Miss Anne Campbell, a daughter of the late Mr Matthew Campbell, and for many years was prominent in musical circles, being a prominent soloist at Harmonic Society's concerts.

The deatli is announced of the Hon. J. Barr, M.L.C. The deceased, who was Chairman of Committees of the Legislative Council, had been in ill-health for some months. The Post Office flag was flying half-mast high to-day as a •mark of respect to the dead legislator.
