LEGALLY APPROVED LIST DIFFICULTIES OF PARENTS PARIS, 24th November. When a French father presented a form giving his daughter's Christian name as ''Jacqueline Helyett Madeleine," the registrar frowned and said: "Jacqueline is all right, Madeleine passes, but Helyett does not appear on the approved list." The official took a calendar of names allowed under a decree of April, 1803. He observed that there were plenty of other funny names. "What about Theopreprides, Thessalonice or Abaldesque?" he asked, but the father stamped out.
Inquiries show that even Paulette is illegal. However, most registrars do not worry about the law.
