WELLINGTON WOOL SALES

GOOD COMPETITION AT LOWER RANGE OF PRICES (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day.,

At the local wool sales to-day a catalogue of a little over 17,000 bales was offered. Competition on the current low range was exceedingly animated, with buying well spread—better spread than at Auckland or Wanganui. Continental competition was most' pronounced as a large proportion of the offering was suitable to that trade. Bradford was interested, and any lines of good to superfine crossbreds met with excellent competition. These wook and good crossbreds were fully firm on Napieij prices, and slightly better than those for Auckland and Wanganui. & Good skirtings sold freely, Germany being the principal operator. Merino and half bred prices were on a low level. The highest price for merino was lOd for eight bales of merino ewes, and 9£d for merino wethers. A super combing line of 11 bales made 10id, and a second line with pieces and bellies of the same clip at 7d. Ordinary top-making lines of lialfbred and merino sold at disappointing prices, and passings were fairly heavy. The quality and condition of the wool at the sale was below the usual standard. Withdrawals before the sale were fairly heavy. Superfine crossbreds of American style were eagerly competed for. the price running from 6d to 7d. Good parcels of lambs' brought 5d to 6d. Ordinary topmaking 44/48s crossbreds showed no change, and brought 4fd to s^d; low grade crossbreds 4d to 4id; inferior and seedy wools 3d to 3£d; ordinary bellies and pieces 2d to 3d, with better lines from 4d to .. There was a full bench of buyers keen to get wool.
