SUBTERRANEAN RUMBLES
HEARD OVER WIDE AREA
ASSOCIATED WITH ARAPUNI
(By Telegraph—Press Association)
AUCKLAND, This Day. Residents in the districts between Te. Awamutu and Rukuhia, near Frankton, are at a loss to explain dull subterranean rumbles which were heard at 6.30 on Saturday evening. They were described as being like a series of explosions a lon'g way off and sufficiently heavy to rattle windows in houses.
Residents in the districts where the subterranean noises were heard were inclined to associate the happening with Arapuni, but nothing furher of an untoward nature has been reported from that locality.
On inquiries being made it was ascertained that the sliange noises were heardftover a wide hum.
