A CUCKOO LEGEND
There are many ,cuckoo legends. Here is one:
A starling met a cockoo, who asked him what the town thought of the thrush. “Oh,” replied the starling, “the whole town worship him.”
“And the lark?” queried the cuckoo. “Half the town talks about him,” was the reply. “The blackbird?” “Oh, many admire him.” “How about me?” questioned the cuckoo. “I never hear your name mentioned,” said the candid starling.
“Well, then,” declared the cuckoo, “I must sing my own praises.” and off he flew, crying “Cuckoo, cuckoo,” and he has been crying his name ever since.
