SELECTED ROSES
The National Rose Society published a list of the best twenty roses 'of recent introduction. They were selected for their colour, lasting qualities, general habit of growth, substance of petal and fragrance, decorative value, lasting qualities of bloom when, cut, foliage (liability to disease), and general qualities. The list was prepared by sixteen of the foremost rose growers living in different parts of England, and was as follows, in order of merit: —Shot Silk, Angele Pernet, Dainty Bess, Mrs A. R. ]3arraclough, Mrs G. A. van Rossem, Elsie Poulsen, Dame Edith Helen, Charles P. Killiam, Ivy May, Hirsten Poul Poulsen, Ladylove, Allen Chandler, Julien Potin, Mrs Beatty, Billy Boy, Golden Gleam, Margaret McGredy, Duchess of Atholl, Thelma, Sir David Davies. The following novelties were represented in coloured illustrations in the National Rose Society’s Year Book: —Betty Soutor, brilliant metallic pink,, paling towards the edges of the petals; Tom Barr, apricot shaded with car: mine; Aureate, deep yellow; Trigo, rich yellow-shaded salmon; Leslie Dudley, warm carmine pink shaded orange; James Gibson, rich velvety crimson; Gladys Benskin, warm pink, shaded yellow and gold; Julien Potin, bright yellow; Janies Rea, rich, deep, glowing rose colour; W. E. Chaplin, deep .crimson shaded rose;. Molly Daracli, bright rose, shaded creamy, yellow at the base. This list gives one an idea of the novelties we may expect shortly, and if' they are anything like the illustrations they will be distinct acquisitions. The following are the best six rambler roses: Albei'ic Barbier, Elilily Gray, Paul’s Scarlet Climber, American Pillar, Excelsa, Dorothy Perkins. Six dwarf polyanthus are Coral Cluster, Orleans Rose, Eblouissant, Mrs W. H. Cutbush, Edith Cavcll, Ellen Poulsen.
