A Napier Press Association telegram reports the death of Superintendent J. H. Riddell, of the Napier Fire Brigade. He was injured on sth May last when he fell one storey while inspecting a building partly destroyed by 'fire that morning. He had been connected with fire brigades for over 30 years. Mr F. W. O. Smith, of Nelson, has been appointed a member of the General Council of Education in the interests of Agriculture. The appointment is for a term of three years.
