HOTEL ON FIRE

' There were sensational scenes when the large Coolangatta hotel, on the Queensland border, was destroyed by fire and also two adjoining cottages, in the early morning. The hotel guests, mainly women and girls, were almost overcome by smoke. They scrambled over the balcony, down drainpipes, and sought refuge on tanks and screamed for help. t . A howling gale was in progress and there were flames everywhere, the whole building being an inferno. ( , All the inmates reached safety. Three 'were injured when they leapt to the ground, 24 feet. There were pitiful scenes in the street, young women bemoaning the fate of their clothes and other belongings. The total damage was £15,000.
