TRACK WORK AT RICCARTON
HORSES IN PREPARATION FOR DUNEDIN
(By Telegraph—Special to “The Mail”)
CHRISTCHURCH, 29th May.
At Riccarton to-day Pangolin was given a useful gallop over a mile, taking 1.22 for the last six furlongs. He looks in good order for hurdle engagements at Wingatui. Sapient and Arrowmaid were associated in a half mile sprint which they reeled off in 50 1-5 The pair moved in good style throughout, and they should perform well in engagements near at hand.
Randagh. and Troilus set out for a seven furlong gallop, but Troilus was no use to his mate, who went brilliantly, covering the last six furlongs in 1.15 3-5, and finishing ten lengths in front. Ranelagb is in great order at present, and lie should earn some money at the Dunedin meeting. , Starsbooter and Haze got to the end of six furlongs in 1.16 3-5, a useful gallop, while Royal Mint and Rascal occupied 1.19 2-5' over the same ground. These four will represent I<. P. Claridge’s stable at the Dunedin meeting, where they should pay their way. Amorist covered six furlongs in 1.17. He jumped well earlier in the week and lie should be seen to advantage in hurdle events at Wingatui. A. E. Ellis will ride Arikiwai, Em tin Tin, Wingatui and Palrnero in their engagements on the first day of the Dunedin meeting. F. Christmas lias cancelled his proposed trip to Wingatui with Zeuxis and Garvary. The former is shaping well in his schooling, and lie may win a hurdle race before long. H W King lias decided not io race Gala Day and Aberfeldy at the Dunedin meeting. Gala Day has shaped will in his schooling over fences, but his ownertrainer considers that lie requires more education before he tackles the severe country in a race. Aberfeldy is backward, and thus is not likely to show winning form. The pair should do well later in the winter.
