GOLDEN WEDDING

MR AND MRS THOMAS ROUGHTON

An interesting event wns tlie celebra lion on Saturday, 24tli May, at Mining Grove, of tlio golden wedding of Mr and Mrs Thomas Roudi.ton, who have been resident'in the kelson province for over forty years. A large number of friends assembled to' celebrate the occasion, and Mr and Mrs Rough ton were the recipients of many "ifts, Mr Houghton was born in Nelson, his parents landing in tlio early 'forties. Mrs Roughton was bom in Auckland, her parents being also early arrivals in the colony. They were married on 24th May, 1830, and had a family of three sons and si;;, daughters, of which there survive two sons and four daughters. At the celebration at Spring Grove several of he family were present, also grandchildren. After the cutting of the proverbial cake the health of Mr and Mrs Roughton was proposed by Mr \V. Lewis. Numerous letters 'and telegrams were received.
