SYDNEY, 28th May. Continuing her flight across Australia, Miss Johnson left Longreach at 10.25 o'clock this morning for Roma, where she will remain overnight. She will broadcast a short talk from there at 7.30 o'clock to-night to Australians, and is due to arrive at Brisbane to-morrow afternoon, where a wonderful welcome awaits her.
Lord Inclicapo.lias cabled bis Australian agents offering Miss Johnson a free passage back to England in one of their peninsular liners. Miss Amy Johnson landed at Charleville, Queensland, just after 6 o’clock tonight. She had become separated from the escorting airplane. She received an ovation. Her broadcast- talk, originally fixed for Roma, was the briefest. Messrs Wakefield’s representative announced over the air at 9.40 o’clock that Amy had had a trying trip from Longreaeh. She landed at Charleville after dark. Twenty motorists’ grouped headlights flooded the landing ground. Amy made a perfect descent amid deafening, cheers. She then spoke: “Hullo, Australia. I’m just going to bed ; very tired. 1 will speak to you longer when I reach Brisbane. Goodnight.” TERRIFIED BY MOB VERY MUCH UPSET (Received 29th May, 9.35 a.m.) BRISBANE, This Day. Terrified by the mob that rushed her upon landing at Charleville, worn out by days of flying and dispirited by having lost her way, Amy Johnson broke into tears when she reached her hotel last night. Sweeping police and officials aside, the crowd rushed in in a wild burst of enthusiasm; but Miss Johnson is afraid of one thing only, and that is a mob. She became hysterical and almost broke down on her aeroplane. She was too upset even to speak to her parents by wireless telephone.
