ST. GEORGE AND THE DRAGON
( There are numerous legends about St. George, but all agree that bo came from Palestine, and suffered martyrdom under Diocletian about the year 303 because tie was a Christian. St. George was adopted as England’s patron Saint when tlie Order of St. George was instituted. The Order, which is now known as tile Order of the Garter, came into being on 23rd April, 1348, and consequently St. George’s Day is celebrated on 23rd April each year.
