TRACK WORK AT RICCARTON
HORSES WITH ENGAGEMENTS AT DUNEDIN (By Telegraph—Special to "The Mail") CHRISTCHURCH, 27th May. At Riccarton to-day some of the horses with engagements at the Dunedin, meeting were sent along at about their best pace, but others were restricted to easier tasks. Radiate galloped a mile 'and a quarter in 2.24, taking 59 4-ssees. for the last half mile. lie will not be schooled again prior to his departure for Wingatui, his trainer being quite satisfied- with his jumping. Radiate looks well and lie will have to be reckoned with in cross country events at tho Dunedin meeting. Subdivision and Tripaway went out to work six furlongs in company. Tripaway was not in a galloping mood, and Subdivision, under a strong pull, finished six lengths in front, after being twice that distance clear of his mate at one stage. The journey occupied 1.23 ,1-5, the last half mile taking 56sec. These two will accompany Radiate to Wingatui. It is probable that this trip will bring Tripaway’s racing career to a close, and she will be retired to the stud.
Straightcourse was half a’-length in front of Semper Paratus at the end of six furlongs, run in 1.19 3-5, while Full Ifeather narrowly defeated Waterline over a mile in 1.44 2-5. 11. Cults will take these four horses south to-morrow to represent Sir Charles Clifford at the Dunedin meeting. They are in good fettle, and they should pay their way on the trip. Arikiwai covered seven furlongs in 1.30 1-5, Dunraven assisting him over the last half mile, in £>2 l-ssec. Arikiwai looks well after his race at Ashburton, and if the Wingatui track is reasonably firm he should show up prominently in the Birthday Handicap. Desert- Song, Aberfeldy and Gala Day were associated over half a mile up tho back, which they left behind in 51sec. It was a useful effort. Toawai and Miss Bradbury went out to do six furlongs in company. Toawai bolted however, and Miss Bradbury ran five furlongs alone in 1.5 1-5. She looks none the worse for her lace at Ashburton.
Most of the Riccarton trainers, with horses engaged at the Dunedin meeting, will go south on Thursday.
