ESCAPE OF GAS

MAN FOUND UNCONSCIOUS

AUCKLAND, This Day. A narrow escape from asphyxiation was experienced by Mr W. McKiernan. aged 41 years, a lodger at a city hoarcihighoiise. who was admitted to hospital suffering from the effect of gas poisoning. One of the maids who went to call Mr. McKiernan for breakfast received no, response, awd'on opening the doorfound him unconscious in his bed. It is stated that a plug from a disused gas connection bad come out during the night. The windows of the room were closed.

Inquiry at the hospital late last night revealed that Mr Kiernan's condition was serious.
