TRACK WORK AT RICCARTON

LIMERICK'S PROGRAMME RED HECKLE'S AND ARIKIWAI'S PROSPECTS (By Telegraph—Special to "The Mail") ] CIIRTSTCHURCH. Bth April, j F. D. Jones had Limerick out yesterday for the first time since last Spring, | when he went into retirement following on leg troubles which developed in Australia. He was given easy exercise on the lead in the middle of tho course. JL'he programme contemplated- by his trainer is to keep him at trotting and cantering for two months, followed by a month of steady pace work, and then a month of sprinting. If lie gees on all right up to that stage it is probable that Jones will take him for another trip to Sydney for Spring meetings. Rapier has finished his racing caree.", and he will be sent home to his owner this week. It is probable that he will take up stud duties in the Spring. He has showed signs of unsoundness lately, and though he might have survived another preparation, his trainer, H. Nurse, prefers to retire him without risking the breakdown of his old .favourite. It was understood that A. E. Ellis would bo on Red Heckle in any raco ho

contested at Riccarton. It is stated, however, that ho may bo on First Sight (carrying a hhv pounds overweight) in the Croat Autumn.

Arikiwai may be bandied by G. Humphreys in the Great Faster and by A. 11. Eastwood in the Great Autumn. Red Heckle is engaged in \\\ti Great Easter and Great Autumn Handicaps, but' his programme has not been settled. It is pretty certain that be will not run in both events, but F. Christmas viil delay for a few days a decision about the race in which bo will bo started. He galloped nine furlongs attractively today, anil the Great Autumn may make a strong appeal. The jockey, C. F. Eastwood, is about again, having made a good recovery from tho serious accident that occurred to him while riding at Takapuna at the end of January. He was on the track at Riccarton this morning, and ho exiled s to be riding again at Eastor.
