WITHDRAWAL OF SURVEY PARTY
CONCERN AT CHRISTCHURCH (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. It is reported that the party which was engaged in completing tho survey of the .South Island Main Trunk Railway, has been withdrawn and sent to undertake u survey of tho proposed new Lewis Pass road. On its recent visit of inspection to the railway works, the Marlborough Progress League came to the conclusion that the completion of the survey, so that contracts could be invited for bridging and tunnelling, was the most urgent requirement of the project, and representations to this effect were to be made to the Minister. In view of the withdrawal of the survey party at this juncture, with the work far from complete, considerable uneasiness is being felt among those interested in the progres of the railway.
