MAWSON'S EXPEDITION
ENTHUSIASTIC WELCOME TO THE DISCOVERY

ADELAIDE. Ist April. Vice regal, the Government, and public congratulations on the successful conclusion of tiie expedition's first voyage, were embodied in the enthusiastic welcome to the Discovery, which berlhed at Port Adelaide at noon to-day. The ship, which remains about a week, will be thrown open for inspection. Then she departs for Melbourne Sir Douglas Mawson said: "We charted hundreds of miles of new coast line. The aeroplane proved invaluable. We made a complete investigation into whaling and accomplished a phenomenally largo dlT'OUiit of general scientific work. The skip brought back thousands of specimens which ar3 not yet on view.''
ENTERTAINED AT BANQUET
EXPEDITION A TRIUMPH OF ORGANISATION

Mawson's party was to-night entertained at a banquet by the South Australian Government. Many notables were present including the GovernorGeneral, Lord Stonehaven, and _ the State Governor.
Lord Stonehaven paid a tribute to the remarkable team work of the expedition which was a triumph of organisation typical of the British race. He read a message from the King, congratulating Mawson and his companions on their wonderful achievement in face of formidable hardships. Mawson's speech was a recital of absorbing incidents from the time of leaving Capetown last October until they'reached the Pacific. He announced that the Australian Hag had been raised on'new!v discovered territory.
