(Received 28th March, 9.40 a.m.) DELHI, 27th March. Hundreds of thousands of boys and girls, mostly of the Hindu caste, many still in the cradle, are being married througout India in the last few days of this month in order to evade the provisions of the Indian Child Marriage Act, which comes into operation on Tuesday next.
The Act raises the .marriage ago to 14, and the ago of consent to 16. Most brides and bridegrooms are between 9 and 12 years of age, but instances have been reported from Bombay district where girls a few days old married in some cases men 20 years their seniors.
