MINERS' CONVENTION
COMPROMISE REJECTED
SYDNEY, 25th March. ■■'
The Miners' Convention decided not to accept any reduction in pay or increase in hours, and that work not be resumed at the associated collieries untilall summonses against members were withdrawn and all terms of imprisonment suspended. It is understood a proposal was submitted that the men be advised to go; back to work under the terms of the November compromise, but a majority rejected this suggestion. To-day's decision apparently makes re-, sumption of work as far off as ever. It is learned from an authoritative'' source that the convention will call ag-. gregate meetings on the northern coalfields next week, at which the men will be given two alternatives—one that a higher levy be struck to support unem- J ployed miners, or that the terms of the November compromise be accepted.
